The Skills Development Conference (SDC) brings Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and Japanese Teachers of English (JTEs) together to share work experiences and to discuss team-teaching and related matters. The conference strives to enhance English language education and to further develop the JET Programme in Kagoshima Prefecture.
- Enhance teaching methods to promote more communicative and student-centred learning.
- Develop participants as effective team-teachers.
- Utilise textbooks and other teaching materials.
- Discuss issues related to English language education in special needs, elementary, junior, and senior high schools.
- Encourage understanding of cultural differences in the workplace.
- Discuss the duties and responsibilities of the ALT-JTE partnership.
The conference is administered by the Kagoshima Prefecture Board of Education, and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR).
Due to the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the 2021 staging of SDC will be online.
The Kagoshima Prefecture Board of Education regrets that ALTs and JTEs will be unable to gather together to share their diverse perspectives on education in our special needs, elementary, junior, and senior high schools.
Preventative measures guarding against the spread of COVID-19 should continue to be observed at all times.
