Your mental and emotional well-being is equally as important as your physical health. A number of counselling and support resources are available to JET Programme participants to ensure the best possible professional and personal experiences in Japan. Access to these resources put JETs in direct contact with someone who will simply listen and make the appropriate referrals, or with licensed mental health practitioners who are trained to recognize and identify a host of issues.
Health Insurance Coverage
Counselling services are covered by the National Health Insurance under which all JETs are insured.
JET Mental Health Counselling Assistance Programme
The JET Mental Health Counselling Assistance Programme was established in August 2014 and provides, through CLAIR, a 50% subsidy for counselling costs not covered by the National Health Insurance up to ¥20,000 every fiscal year (April 1 to March 31).
To apply for the assistance programme, please contact the PAs or speak to your Supervisor. Complete and submit the appropriate documents by April 12 of the new fiscal year.
